While the Alienware laptops produced by Dell are widely considered the best gaming laptops on earth, Lenovo’s Legion range is gaining momentum and could one day overtake Alienware.
Lenovo splits its laptop range into four main categories: IdeaPads that are marketed to students, ThinkPads for anyone requiring a high-performance laptop like business people, Yoga range comprises a selection of hybrid 2-in-1 laptops which can function in either tablet or laptop mode and the Legion range which is designed for gaming.
Lenovo’s ThinkPads are among some of the most reliable laptops available today – NASA has brought them on every space shuttle flight since 1996. Lenovo’s have proven their worth time and again during rigorous testing in space.
Dell
Both Dell and Lenovo were founded in 1984, albeit on different sides of the planet.
Dell was founded in a dorm room in Austin, Texas, by Michael Dell, a university student at the time.
Dell’s original idea was to provide customized upgrades for people’s PCs at a cheaper rate than large companies were offering at the time. Over the first two years, the business model changed from upgrading PCs to assembling made to order computers for clients.
Dell’s entire business was predicated on the idea that focusing on his customers’ needs would help him to provide a premium product and a better service than any of his competitors, which long term would lead to a higher client retention rate.

- Price. Both Lenovo and Dell offer a wide range of laptops for any budget. The two brands go as low as under $200 with their cheapest laptops.
Even though Lenovo produces one of the best lines of laptops on the market today, you may find it surprising that Dell’s most expensive laptop goes beyond $2,000, while Lenovo’s most expensive laptop doesn’t even go beyond $1,200.
However, most of Dell’s laptops are definitely more expensive than Lenovo’s laptops. That’s why Dell is considered to be a better choice if you’re looking for a powerful laptop with an affordable price tag.
- Design and Build. Lenovo is far more advanced in terms of making its laptops unique compared to Dell. If your laptop is superlight or it folds in an unusual way, be sure: it has to be a Lenovo laptop.
In fact, Lenovo was the one who introduced folding laptops and multiuse laptops (thanks to its Yoga line).
Dell, meanwhile, boasts original designs with creative splashes of color, and cares about the range of colors it provides.
- Reliability and Customer Service. Although very reliable, Lenovo laptops require their owners to seek advice from the customer service. And that’s where they find trouble, as the average call time is nearly 30 minutes long.
No matter if you need immediate support regarding your Lenovo laptop or want the customer service to call you back later, Lenovo does a pretty bad job at it.
